About Kuo Man Restaurant

Tucked away in the Sunny Garden area of Kota Kinabalu, this unassuming spot draws a steady flow of local diners and visitors looking for straightforward, satisfying Chinese fare. The focus here leans heavily towards hearty noodle soups and fish-based dishes, with generous portions that don’t skimp on fresh seafood like fish slices, fishballs, and prawns. Alongside these, you’ll find well-loved plates featuring tender beef parts in light broths, accompanied by noodles with a firm bite and an assortment of small plates including roast pork and pork skin that often catch returning diners’ attention.

The atmosphere is casual and somewhat trendy, with options to sit outdoors or inside where the space accommodates friends, families, and solo diners alike. The place can get busy, especially during peak meal times, and the presence of a wheelchair-accessible entrance and seating makes it approachable for all. While the vibe is relaxed, there’s a noticeable rhythm to the service that matches the steady stream of locals and tourists who drop by, some coming early to beat the crowd for popular items that tend to sell out.

Whether you’re seeking a quick, comforting breakfast, a casual brunch, or a relaxed lunch spot, this is where you might find that calm, grounded local dining experience. It’s a destination for those who appreciate honest, traditional flavors without the fuss, where a warm bowl of noodle soup or a plate of roasted pork can feel like a quiet nod to long-standing neighborhood tastes.

Unexpected surprise. Was staying in the hotel across the street. Went out for dinner and I stumbled upon this little shop. It wasn't anything fancy or big crowd that attracted me, i was just feeling like having some noodle soup. When the dish came I was surprise by the generous portion of fish slices, fishball and prawns. It tasted great too !!

It's another bucket list of must try foods in Sabah. However, it's like hit or miss as I find the dry noodle tasteless but the fish slice was very fresh, thumbs up for that. Portion was big though, so it's worth for the price paid.

Incredible beef noodles! We were brought here by our local friends and this is a favorite among locals. The signature dish is amazing with a number of different beef parts in a light broth with lettuce and then you've got some accompanying noodles that have been tossed in soy. Noodles were very Al Dente and the chili sauce is top-notch! Then we also ordered a plate of the roast pork. The skin was so light and crispy and the under part seemed more smoked like a bacon or a ham as opposed to the traditional five spice powder and salt absolutely incredible! Came again the next day! Except this time for breakfast this time trying the fish noodles.

Every time I go to KK, I will eat here. And I go early to make sure I get to eat the best Yong Tau Foo in town. Sells out fast. Kuo Man has been around for yonks. I started dining here 36 years ago but no longer live in KK. The Lady Boss is older now with the next generation manning the counter. Give a thumbs up, if this post resonates with you.

I just love the old style buildings, people and food. With the old taste and uality of food, no doubt that they still serve the old taste as I had 30 years before. Trust me, you will find one dish you like there.

It was fate that led me to discover this restaurant. When I was taking a grab cab to the hotel, the driver told me this place is famous for its fish balls and beef offal noodles, since just right opposite the hotel, me & my husband decided give it a try. I ordered the pork offal noodles with added the yellow rice wine, it was the first time I'd had such a rich & flavourful yellow rice wine broth. They were so generous with the rice wine, even more than I’d use when cooking at home, so delicious! I’m already starting to miss it now that I’m back in KL. For yellow rice wine lovers definitely need to try this! My husband ordered the beef offal, which he really enjoyed. The meat was tender, though the soup was a bit milder compared to what we’re used to. The weather was so hot, I thought of ordering a chrysanthemum tea to cool down. But when the drink served , we were stunned and surprised , almost half cup of chrysanthemum and gave us a ”sieve” too! That’s unique!!! I was heard Ham jian bian is good too but personally I found it nothing special. As for the noodles, we found them nothing too special. However, the portions of the foods were large, easily enough for two people to share. They have many more choices of foods, definitely worth a try!

The seafood here is very fresh, and the roasted pork is also nice. The other dishes and noodles are just average. The noodles are charged separately, and the portion is quite large—2 to 3 people can share one serving.
